Resurfaced Pain

A smell, picture or a new circumstance can trigger and resurface emotional pain – from circumstances that may have happened even decades ago and even if you dealt with it previously. Personally, I most typically deal with triggers or resurfaced pain regarding the abuse I endured as a teen or regarding grief in losing our son, my parents, and a best friend.

In this article I share three concepts I use to spur healing rather than allowing the trigger to be a fearful nuisance.

FOMO

FOMO (fear of missing out) is the uneasy and sometimes all-consuming feeling that you’re missing out – that your peers are doing, in the know about, or in possession of more or something better than you.

Is it possible that feeling of “not wanting to miss out on something greater” was actually designed in you for a purpose?

Calloused Christianity leaves us feeling void, and there is something so AMAZING that we are actually missing out on when we are not “all in” with His purposes and His ways. Is there such thing as healthy FOMO as it pertains to pursuing the One who created us?

Paybacks are…

Is there any person or group of people that, every time you think of them, you writhe with frustration or hope they “rot in hell”?

Whether it is a wrong committed against you, someone you love, or any group of people you are fighting to represent, it is natural to want revenge, consequences or to spew damnation, but, even if they get what they deserve, it can leave you dripping with disappointment.

Though this article travels through a segment of my abuse story, it can be insightful for anyone who is feeling unsatisfied with the consequences for someone who has committed wrongdoing.
