Ears that Hear

As I was calling my husband to share the not-so-great, newest adoption news, I looked out the back door and saw Nicki!

Who is Nicki?

Nicki is the dog that belongs to the family that lives behind us.  She had gone missing 4 days ago, and I had never prayed so hard for a dog to return to it’s owner.

Nicki’s family has recently gone through a string of unthinkable tragedies, so when Reese and I received news that she had disappeared my heart ached so deeply for them – so we prayed right there.  We looked and looked for Nicki.  When I saw her in the backyard while making my phone call to my husband, she had just been returned and was wrestling and running with the other dog in the yard.  It was a beautiful reunion and answer to prayer!

All throughout the week I was very aware that God was answering some very specific prayers I had just started praying.  But when I got the call from the adoption agency that the son we are adopting had to be permanently removed from his foster home because his foster mom has been diagnosed with a disease (we don’t know what she has), I quickly forgot all the answered prayers and moved into doom and gloom.

  • Our home should be the next home he transitioned to!
  • His heart must be so confused and ache so much!
  • His foster mom must be so hurt and devastated!  I know she loved HC.
  • I have no control in protecting and loving on my child who is 7000 miles away.
  • Noooooooo!
HC looked despondent in the pictures we received of him, which is very different from the normal, super-smiley pictures we receive.
So, as I called to share this difficult news with Ron, I looked out the back door – and there was Nicki.  This sweet mutt – who had no one to protect her for the last several days but had someone to pray diligently for her – was now with her family.  It was perfect timing for me to see her return and a perfect reminder that my prayers do not fall on deaf ears.  If God cares this much about my prayers for Nicki, I can only imagine the amazing ways He is answering our prayers regarding our son… His precious child.
“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” 1 John 5:14

Father God, You are a holy and awesome God.  Thank You for the many ways You answer our prayers.  Thank You for listening and caring.  You are God, and I am not – You have Your hand on each of our children, loving them and caring for their every need.  I pray for HC’s previous foster family, that their hearts will be comforted and that her body may be healed.  I pray for the new family HC is with now.  Prepare them for a toddler in the home.  Give them an abundance of love and patience.  I pray for our family, Lord, as we wait.  Waiting is so hard.  Help us to not grow weary, and give us strength to be intentional with every day we have between now and the time he comes home. – Amen
