What is a Life Coach?

A  Life Coach is a professional who initiates a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires you to maximize your personal and professional potential. Through active listening, strategy, support and accountability, a good coach will help you identify and overcome obstacles and enable you to move forward at a far greater pace than you could achieve on your own. Many coaches have specialties, and mine is in Christian Mentorship, Life After Loss and Trauma, Life Transitions and Blocks, and Relationship Building.

Not all coaches are trained and certified. I am certified through Life Purpose Institute and pursuing further certification through the International Coach Federation.

Couple's Coaching is also available here at Run the Race Together. Couples have the opportunity to work with me and my husband, Ron, together. Ron, in addition to our coaching together, has many years of successfully supporting couples and individuals as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). How long are coaching sessions?

There are several types of sessions with varying durations:

  • Introductory Session (one-time): 30-50minutes
  • Discovery Session (one-time): 2 hours
  • General Sessions (most common): 1 hour
  • Check-up/Accountability Sessions (used once you are no longer and on-going client but want to check-in): 30 min

How many sessions will I need?

For individual coaching, the duration depends on what you want to achieve. Most people come to a Life Coach with a life changing goal in mind. For some people this may take as little as 6 sessions and for others it will be more. It is a very personal decision based on your individual goal. Once people start experiencing the benefits of Life Coaching they often choose to continue in order to focus on additional goals.

Couple's Coaching requires a 4 month commitment and 12-sessions. A 4 month commitment, in the midst of regular life, allows each partner time to create lasting, healthy habits. Learn more about Couple's Coaching here.

Where does coaching take place?

For most clients, sessions will be by phone making it convenient to fit coaching into your busy life. Video chat and in-person sessions are also available. Video chat and phone calls are conducted through Zoom. You will need a free Zoom account for this; you will be sent a link or a number with your scheduling confirmation. For phone and video sessions, it is pertinent that these sessions take place while you are in a calm environment with no distractions (not driving in a car) so that you can focus on the conversation.

In-person sessions are held in Tulsa, OK near mid-town and are for women and couples only. All male clients will need to choose phone or video meeting.

How much does it cost?

Life Coaching services through Run the Race Together is likely the most cost effective coaching available as it is an extension of our ministry services. Sessions are sold in packages; longer duration packages cost less per session. Please schedule a free informational session to learn more about pricing and packages.

How is Life Coaching different from Counseling?

There are some similarities in coaching and counseling.  Both coaches and counselors ask thought provoking questions and allow the client space to answer without judgement. Licensed counselors have a significant amount of training, education, and oversight in order to help a client process deep emotional and psychotherapeutic issues. Coaches are typically very results oriented and focus on "moving forward" but can definitely help clients identify and move through common blocks and obstacles from their past with some powerful techniques.
